The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration in Hereford

Prince Philip finding out about the work of YSS

The Queen visited marquees celebrating all things from Herefordshire, including the VCS. YSS had an exhibition showcasing the theme “from small beginnings all things can grow” and gave away plant pots of sunflowers plants. Anne-Marie Clifford and Claire Shaw represented YSS at this event.

The turnout at the event on the day was very good – over 20,000 people were out on the streets to welcome the royal party. There was a lot for people to look at and join in. The numbers coming into and through the voluntary sector marquee were steady; several recruitment packs were given out and networking opportunities were good.

We only saw the queen from afar but Prince Philip stopped at the YSS stand and shook hands with Ann-Marie and Claire. Prince Philip appeared interested in hearing about the work of YSS, especially the mention of working with offenders on release, even meeting them at the prison to bring them home.
