YSS Worcestershire Young carers interviewed on BBC Hereford and Worcester radio ahead of Census results for young carers being announced today

The office of National Statistics announced  the most  recent Census results today,  and this included the details for Young Carers.

BBC radio H&W: 3 of YSS Worcestershire Young Carers were interviewed on BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester, on the breakfast show with Howard and Toni, to give more insight into their lives as principal carers, and the impact on their own lives.

A report by the Children’s Society   “Hidden from view ” , released on May 16 2013,  indicates that census figures released show that 166,000 children, aged 5-17, are caring for their siblings, parents or others. This shocking number is likely to underestimate the true picture, as many young carers remain hidden from official statistics and the agencies set up to identify and support them.

Children’s Society report Hidden from View  combines the latest census data with new analysis of a government backed survey that tracked the lives of around 15,000 young people over a seven-year period from ages 13 and 14.
