Robin Walker MP visits Worcestershire Young Adult Carers club

Robin Walker, MP for Worcester, was the special guest at the latest YSS Worcestershire Young Adult Carers club, with  25 young adult carers   attending together  with YSS key workers Neil Philips, Louise Prescott and Sue Eltagouri . He  had requested  the visit  following  previous meetings/ visits with  young carers.

The club was held at Perdiswell Young Peoples Leisure Centre  and Robin came along to catch up with some of the young people he had previously met on the Young Carer’s visit to Parliament last year, as well as to meet some new faces.

He then joined in with some of the activities on offer. The young people appreciated the Bouncy Castle, rice crispie cake making, Easter egg painting, pool, karaoke, and generally socialising and catching up!

After a few in depth chats with some of the young carers, Robin had a surprise for us and very kindly donated a birthday cake recently made for him by Worcester Warriors Rugby club – which was soon cut up and enjoyed  by all present!

One of the young adult carers in particular had a really positive conversation with Robin: “I was really nervous before I spoke to him but I got a really positive outcome. I was really pleased I spoke up in the end”.

Some of the young people were involved in providing  information for a project with Nottingham University, as undergraduate student Gemma Gough is completing research around how their caring role has affected their education. All of the information was confidential but all involved enjoyed it and reported it was going well.
