Enjoying a day out

Careers Week was celebrated with  35 Worcestershire Young Carers enjoying a very special day out at Drayton Manor, thanks to the generosity of  the Kids Out, Rotary International and  the Droitwich Rotary Club.

Drayton Manor ensured a day of laughter and excitement for disadvantaged children across the West Midlands when it hosted the 25th Kids Out charity event. Over 6,000 people attended, meaning that this was the biggest gathering yet, with a combination of 52 Rotary Clubs and 70 schools and groups present. Roger Harris, from Droitwich Rotary Club  went along with the Worcestershire  Young Carers, and thanks to him  and  his branch the Young  Carers had a brilliant  time. The Young Carers said:

  •  “Great day out – 11 out of 10!”.
  • “G-Force and Maelstrom are amazing – and Shockwave”.
  • “Day out was great”.
  • “Nice break and good fun, enjoyed relaxing and the rides”.

IMG00014-20140611-1352 (3)The occasion is organised annually in conjunction with the charity and Rotary International District 1060, to provide underprivileged, disabled and special needs children with a free, fun-filled day out. Drayton’s founder George Bryan OBE decided to make it an annual event. George died last year and all the attendees at this year’s event paid their respects to him by wearing bright yellow t-shirts, as this was his favourite colour. Drayton Manor was initially approached by Rotary District 1060 in 1989 when three Rotary clubs asked if they could bring a small number of disadvantaged children to the park for a fabulous day. Most of the children had never been to a theme park before and some had not even been out for a day trip.

IMG00017-20140611-1415Colin Bryan, CEO and Group Managing Director at Drayton Manor Theme Park, said: “This is the 25th time that we have hosted the annual Kids Out event and we look forward to it every single year. It’s not only a brilliant day for the children, but for the staff as well. It’s great to see the big smiles on all their faces and we’re honoured to be able to offer them a day out that they’ll remember forever.”
