Worcestershire Association of Carers and YSS Young Carers are joining forces on Friday 17th October at YSS’s new Carden St. Cafe, in Worcester.  The 2 charities are getting behind Carers Trust’s national campaign ‘Britain’s Best Breakfast’ and aim to raise funds to help support Worcestershire’s  63,000 unpaid adult carers and the county’s 3,940 young carers.

Everyone is welcome and breakfast is served between 7.30am and 11.30am.

Each charity is offering carers a FREE breakfast at the cafe on a first come first served basis. Carden St. Cafe Manager Steve Griffiths is entering into the spirit and whisking up a ‘Carers Breakfast Special’.  To claim a FREE breakfast, unpaid adult carers need to ring 0300 012 4272 by 16 October. Young carers, currently supported by YSS, can either go to the cafe on the 17 October to claim their Carers Breakfast or if unable to get to the cafe on that date, they will be offered a free bacon sandwich during half-term week. In both instances they just need to take in their ID to the Carden St. Cafe.

Lucy Buckland, YSS Young Carers key worker joins Carden St. Cafe manager Steve Griffiths and Carole Cumino Worcestershire Association of Carers CEO to promote this event

Carole Cumino, Worcestershire Association of Carers (WAC), Chief Executive Officer said  “3 in every 5 people in Worcestershire will become an unpaid carer at some point in their lives. Most of us know a carer now.  This campaign is a great way to encourage carers to take the first step to finding out more about WAC, how we help, and to enjoy a hearty breakfast with other carers and staff members from both charities.  We hope to raise some money and we’re sure to have some fun,”

Lorraine Preece, YSS, Chief Executive Officer said “ We currently work with roughly 10% of young people who are in a caring role but we need to find and help more, as without proper support young carers can be very vulnerable.  Our cafe is one of the ways we promote our activities, and Britain’s Best Breakfast is a fantastic opportunity for both charities to work together to highlight the role of carers.”

Britain’s Best Breakfast runs from October 17-19, and collection tins are available for donations in many cafes and restaurants throughout the county.
