Long serving YSS Trustee retires

Leon Murray retired from YSS Trustees, at the AGM in November, after serving   for over 14 years.

Lady McFarlane, Chair of Trustees, said “Leon joined YSS just after Rob Smith (former  CEO)  and along with Tricia Bradbury, was a Probation Board Trustee and together with fellow Trustee Catherine Driscoll helped steer YSS from the early days.

Leon was born in Jamaica, came to this country in the 1960s. He has done a lot of work on diversity and has been recently Mayor of Telford.  We are enormously grateful for his support over the last 14 years but he has now decided to move on to other pastures and we wish him well.”

Leon is also currently a magistrate on the Telford Youth Bench. In 2005 Leon was appointed as a Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Shropshire. Leon has had a varied management career in private commerce working for GKN and has also been a past Vice President for the Methodist Church of Great Britain. In addition Leon is the author of ‘Being Black in Britain’ and took the Trustee lead on Diversity issues.  In 2013 Leon was appointed Mayor for Telford & Wrekin.
