On Tuesday 4th August a group of 11 young carers visited the fantastic Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire with Vicky and Neil (Keyworkers – YSS Worcestershire Young Carers).  They enjoyed a really varied day that started with a tour of the castle. The estate was established in the late 16th century and continues to be inhabited by descendants of the original family. They open the house to visitors for a few hours each day.  The group saw some amazing suits of armour and old weapons as well as some incredible taxidermy including an elephant’s foot that one of the young carers discovered holding a door open! Some of the more exotic animals were hunted a long time ago by the family’s ancestors and brought back to Herefordshire to show the locals animals from different parts of the world. One young carer said that they “really liked all of the wild animals in the castle. Especially the Cheetah”.

Neil, who’s just returned to YSS said; “It was great to meet up with some of our young carers again after a year away. Eastnor castle was really impressive and the young people really showed an interest in some local history”.

After seeing the inside of the house the group had a lovely picnic, soaking up the sunshine in the castle grounds (which is huge and one part is now the location of the Land Rover vehicle test track!). The visit was finished off with an hour playing on the ziplines and climbing ropes in the adventure playground before a cake and biscuit decorating workshop with the Easy Peasy Cookery company. What a fun packed day!!
