Young Carers half term activities : Top Barn, First aid course, Birmingham uni visit

It’s a wet, wild and windy day but our young carers focus group are all out braving the elements at Top Barn activity centre in Holt Heath. The group meet every month and are actively involved in shaping our service and influencing decisions for various local organisations. The aim of this  day  is to further develop their team building as well as to have some fun along the way. Photos to follow  too.

first aid course Our focus group took part at YSS   in a accredited first aid course courtesy of Lifeline 1st Aid Training. This course was requested by the focus group during a consultation and we really hope it can be a benefit in both their personal and professional lives in the future.

20151028_10562510 young carers were very lucky to be invited to University of Birmingham  this week  courtesy of their outreach team. The visit was part of a day specifically put on for young carers across the West Midlands area in order to showcase all that University life has to offer, as well as an opportunity to develop some new art skills, learn some history, be interviewed on the student radio station, see the campus and eat lots of chocolate! It was a really fascinating day, and quite a few members of the group were inspired to look at what grades they would need to get in order to progress on to higher education. We would really like to say a special thanks to all at Birmingham University and especially our student ambassadors Sunny and Harry for looking after us all day!
