Young Carers visit WODYS

As we are all rushing around making the last minute preparations for Christmas, we thought it would be nice to take a look back at what has been a jam-packed December for everyone at Worcestershire Young Carers.

Our Children in Need funded Focus group have doubled their efforts this month and met twice – making sure their opinions and voices are being heard in the upcoming tendering process. They also found the time to visit the guys at drp who, you may remember, helped us to run our conference back in April. The group dropped off a Christmas card along with a framed photo with a commemorative plaque attached, marking the event.

It has also been a fantastic month for donations and fundraising. We have been nominated as WODYS chosen charity for next years production of Les Miserables at the Swan Theatre in Worcester. A small group visited WODYS cabaret performance in Worcester earlier in the month and posed for some photos – keep a look out for promotional material in the local press over the coming months. As well as this, Droitwich Saltway Quilters presented us with a cheque for the amazing amount of £725 during their Christmas buffet meal following a years worth of fundraising on our behalf. Once again we were hugely grateful to the Redditch Recorder group who entertained shoppers in Redditch with Christmas Carols and raised a fantastic £176.01. For the 3rd year running, the generous congregation of Bewdley Baptist church have helped to put together over 70 food hampers for families in need across the county. 13 of our families were lucky enough to have some Christmas cheer (and lots of food) delivered by Key workers.

As well as all of the serious stuff, we’ve also had a lot of fun. At our Senior Young Carers club we were visited by the Petite Booth Company, which turned out to be a huge hit with the group. This was very kindly sponsored by Tappers Upholstery. The senior group also visited the German Market in Birmingham. Despite the weather being terrible for the trip, fun was had, everybody got in the festive mood and a few sneaky presents were bought!

Our junior club were once again visited by the great folks at Three Pears Scooter club for the third year running. As per previous years, they bought a gift for all of the children, handed out by Santa Claus  from the back of his van!

Overall, its been a magical build up to the big day – thanks to all who have attended, donated, fundraised and worked hard for the young carers of Worcestershire.

Merry Christmas from us all and we shall see you in 2016!
