An opportunity to see a Custody Suite at Appropriate Adult volunteer training

AA training jan 201613 new volunteers  interested in  becoming Appropriate Adults  for the  YSS Appropriate Adult Service undertook a  training  day  at West Mercia Police HQ at the Jackie Smith Training centre at Hindlip  on 9 January 2016. Delegates attended from Worcestershire/Herefordshire and Telford& Wrekin /Shropshire.  Volunteers   had the  opportunity  to see a Custody suite and to understand  more on the role and  requirements of an Appropriate Adult.

YSS developed and has  run, for 16 years,  a volunteer Appropriate Adult service for 10-16 year olds being detained in Police Custody. Any young person aged 10 and 16 years of age, whilst being interviewed under caution at the police station, must have an Appropriate Adult in attendance. There is  a team of volunteers throughout West Mercia delivering this service to young people, and the service is available now for 17 year olds. The service is commissioned by West Mercia Youth Offending Service.
