YSS Celebrates Volunteer week 2016: ” We thank you”
Over 21 million people volunteer in the UK at least once a year and this contributes an estimated £23.9bn to the UK economy. Behind these big numbers is a big contribution. These 21 million people are a shining example of how we can all make a big difference to individuals and communities every day from improving the environment we live in, spending time with those who may otherwise be lonely and contributing to a range of other essential services and support. We believe such a big contribution is worth a big celebration!

Lorraine Preece, YSS CEO,  recently wrote to  thank all  our volunteers:  here is an extract from her letter:

Volunteers and the ethos and values that volunteering brings to YSS are hugely important to us.  You make a massive difference to people and communities all over West Mercia (Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin  and Worcestershire) in a number of ways:

  • Supporting parents and their children (EnHance)
  • Providing advice and support to adults in the criminal justice system – including collection from the prison gate (Employment Support Service and Meet and Mentor)
  • Helping people break down the barriers to employability (Employment Support Programme)
  • Supporting young adults aged 16 -24  to access resources in the community (Accessing Resources in the Community)
  • Supporting young people in custody (Appropriate Adult)
  • Helping out in our cafe at Carden Street, Worcester
  • Supporting our young carers clubs and activities in Worcestershire

We know  it can make a huge difference to those we work with  if they know someone is motivated and cares enough to offer their time for free.

In our 30th year, in order to acknowledge the amazing contribution from our volunteers particularly the extra dimension and diversity you bring to our work,  we have a number of initiatives in the pipeline, including

  • A bespoke volunteer database has been commissioned in order for us to better capture the profile of our volunteers across all areas including numbers, gender, age, ethnicity, training  etc

Finally, on behalf of YSS,  for the contribution you make to our work and  the positive difference you are making to the  lives of so many of our service users and their families, we thank you.”

Volunteer  week  2016 celebrations will  be taking place in Hereford, Telford and Worcester,  where  volunteers will be presented with their  certificates.  Look out in the YSS  news stories  for more about these  events taking place  between 1 – 12 June  2016.
