YSS is absolutely thrilled that HRH the Princess Royal, YSS’s patron, will be the  key note speaker at  YSS’s 30th Celebration event  on 3 October  at Six Ways, Worcester. This will be her 7th visit to our charity. The celebration event will be for staff, trustees, stakeholders and representatives of volunteers and service users;  and  other national speakers will include Sara Llewellin, Chief Executive    of Barrow Cadbury Trust.

HRH the Princess Royal has been patron of YSS since in 2008. She is an active supporter of YSS and has visited various projects speaking at length with service users, volunteers, staff and partner agencies. This has included visits to the YSS Head Office, the YSS Shrewsbury office, the YSS Carden Street Worcester Training centre and as a guest speaker  at our 2010 T2A (Transition 2 Adulthood) conference, 2013 Mental Health conference and 2015 Worcestershire Young Carers conference. She recently extended her patronage for a further 3 years in 2016.

YSS started in 1986 initially as a multi-agency project called the ISS (Intensive Support Scheme) hosted under the umbrella of the Worcester Diocesan Board for Social responsibility with a management board consisting of Social Services, Youth Services, Education, Probation, Police and local Magistrates. ISS started delivering an intensive support programme called Specified Activity requirements that was part of court orders for 14 – 17 year olds across Worcestershire and Herefordshire, providing motivational one to one support and liaising with statutory agencies on behalf of the young person and their families where appropriate.

YSS currently operates 16 projects across West Mercia and Warwickshire. It is now  an independent charity with over 30 years experience of providing community based support services for children, young people, adults and families who are vulnerable, have complex needs and who face difficult life challenges.

The 30th year celebration plans include 2 key events in the autumn:  this  special Celebration event on October  3  for  staff, trustees, stakeholders and  representatives of volunteers and  service users;  and a  YSS  Celebration Lecture by Nick Hardwick, Chair of the Parole Board  on October  27 at Worcester Cathedral.
