“Thank you YSS for your help. I know a little bit more about using the internet safety.”

YSS and “Get on Line” week

Here’s some of our  service users comments after participating in activities for  the recent “Get on line” week:

‘Thank you YSS for your help. I know a little bit more about using the internet safety.’ ‘Shopping online is actually really easy. I am confident in doing it now’. ‘I still find computers quite scary. I am a little bit happier with them following my session wit Iona, but I am not there yet’.

YSS Digital Connector, Jon Cawdron ran three individual events:

Carden Street Café hosted Coffee and Skype sessions. A different digital Champion volunteer was situated within the café each day and talked to as many people as possible. They sat with individuals and asked them to fill in a questionnaire about how they communicated with friends and family. Those that had never used Skype were invited to give it a try. The offer of this service was met with some interest. The people we did speak to, were encouraged by the help they were given.

In the weeks prior to Get Online Week, Jon had encouraged YSS keyworkers to send their service users along to Carden Street in order to have a digital health check. 10 clients visited the centre during the week. They filled in questionnaires about their online and general IT skills and were given support and advice based on the outcome of this. The pre-planned element of this, meant that it was a lot more successful as clients came to us with the purpose of improving their IT skills.

The third session took place within our usual weekly Employment Support Group. This week the group focused on filling in online forms, uploading CVs and general online safety. 8 clients attended the event.
