Young carers from across Worcestershire are being offered a wonderful opportunity to take to the skies, many for the first time in their lives.

The Worcestershire Young Carers project (delivered by charity YSS) asked their young adult carers aged 17-24,  where they would most like to visit , the most popular choice was beautiful Edinburgh. YSS are therefore offering 10 young carers aged 17 -24 the once in a lifetime opportunity to fly to Edinburgh during October half term week for a trip that will include a visit to the famous zoo, a creepy ghost walk and an open top bus tour of the city.

Many young carers do not go on holiday due to their caring responsibilities and many of the group have never experienced air travel before, something so many of us take for granted. A trip like this not only gives them new experiences but also can provide much needed respite from their caring roles and the opportunity to switch off and have some fun.

It is thanks to local donations that this trip is happening. YSS were able to cover the cost of the flights thanks to previous fundraising efforts but wrote to local supporters asking for donations towards accommodation, activities, food and drink and entrance fees. YSS were overwhelmed by the response and the offers of support from local company Jigsaw Tree, personal donors, along with local charitable organisations Droitwich Spa Rotary and Redditch Lions.

YSS CEO, Lorraine Preece, commented “The generosity from these Worcestershire donors has turned the trip from a dream into  reality which will give the young carers an experience to remember forever”.”
