Benches brought back to life

The latest recycling challenge in the work shop:

These benches were handed to us in pieces. Broken down into their metal components with a few pieces of the old, rotted wood bolted on. The task was to completely restore the benches with new British Oak, new bolts and to clean up the original wrought-iron metal work.

Mike, from our YSS Employment Support Project, took the lead on refurbishments and processed the wood to be an exact match of the original. He was assisted by clients on this project and those at the Senior Attendance Centre.

Once drilled and sanded, the wood was treated with Teak Oil to prevent weathering and to bring out the fantastic colours Oak has to offer. Upon completion, Anthony Mayell (who originally brought them in to us  for help in restoring after his wife , Sarah,  had   seen the  range of work being undertaken in YSS Carden Street Training and Enterprise Centre) said  he  was delighted with the results:

“WOW they look absolutely superb! What a great job and please thank your team for all their work.”

Sarah Mayell has been instrumental with YSS’s development of the Carden St. Cafe since it’s  launch. It was this knowledge of YSS which led to the suggestion that YSS  may be able to help and bring these benches back to life.
